Hey Flint, Ready to be in a Will Ferrell Comedy?
April 11, 2007 - Semi-Pro, a basketball comedy starring Will Ferrell, will begin filming scenes in Flint this spring. 500 extras are need for filming
outdoor scenes and in the basketball arena. Will Ferrell will star as Jackie Moon, the owner-player-coach, of a Flint-based team in the 1970s
American Basketball Association who is trying to get into the NBA. In the late 70's, only four teams from the ABA were allowed in the NBA when
the NBA acquired the ABA. Those four teams were the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, New Jersey Nets and the Denver Nuggets.
"We're looking for a variety of people for the most part," said Wendy Washbrook, extras casting director for the Michigan locations. "Just normal
people who want to come and work with us and dress in 1970s costumes, or wear a wig and sideburns."
The moviemakers earlier sought 1970s-era cars and trucks and memorabilia such as photographs, plaques, awards, posters, calendars and
magazines to use in the film. Because of Flint's rich history in the automotive industry, moviemakers were able to find plenty of cars for the era
for the scenes in Flint. Even former NBA stars from Flint have been cast in the movie.

Movie Plot
The movie is based on a fictious ABA basketball team, The Flint Tropics, set in the 1970's. Jackie Moon (Will Ferrell) the owner-coach-player of
the American Basketball's Association's Flint Michigan Tropics tries to make their NBA dreams a reality.
Status of Movie
Semi-Pro is an upcoming 2008 comedy film currently in production (California scenes). Filming in Flint will begin end of April, beginning of May
(exact dates yet to be determined).
Cast
The film will be directed by Kent Alterman and star Will Ferrell, Andre 3000, Will Arnett, Rob Corddry, and Woody Harrelson.

Southern California (Los Angeles near Dodger Stadium, Elysian Park), Perani Arena and Event Center (previously known as IMA Sports Arena)
in Flint Michigan.
